Some of my Jss2 students told their parents about the announcement, that was when I realized that most of their parents were class teachers in the same school.
"Igwe bụ ike" kọwara onwe ya.
My own way of reinforcement is "letter writing" if you make noise/disturb in my class, you will be taken to a lower class (Js1A) to write a letter telling me that you will never disturb in my class again. The worst part is that I will still take you to another class (Js1B) to read what you have written. I don't flog my students ( No, I can't waste my energy nah) So, the letter writing equiped them.
They wrote to Mrs. Chukwuma
(VP Academics) pleading for her to help them reverse the issue of changing my class. Their request was granted. We moved.
Then I became more friendly and comfortable with them ( I knew they loved me) and I promised to always help them out with their educational problems.
The school does gender assembly, where female teachers are allowed to teach the female students about health regarding to them as girls. The other gender does theirs too but in different location.
It was my turn to teach them on that faithful Thursday, I prepared a wonderful topic "Menstruation"
You know our setting is an Hausa speaking part.
Imagine an Igbo speaking English, Hausa and Igbo language very well hahaha my dear, you must have full coperation with them ooo. So that was my own added advantage.
After my teachings I assured them that am gonna be helping them educationally and health in reference to what I taught. Then I rounded up with an Hausa proverb that says "Rashi seni yafi dereduhu" ( What you don't know is more than darkness) from their facial expressions, if I say they were happy, it's an understatement.
One-day, I was in the staff room when my phone rang, I quickly checked, it was my Mum, so I gently stepped out from the office to do justice to the ring. In other to respect my teachers in the office too.
You know, any language that's meaningless to your ear becomes a noise.
Immediately, I shouted "Yello General Mama" (you know the kind of excitement you derive when any of your parents calls)
Not up to 2 seconds, I heard a masculine voice within the arena saying "Is Aunty eye glasses" and a feminine voice replied "Jesus, I am dead" ( I knew I was the Aunty eye glasses because I had little eye prob then but they didn't know, they thought it was normal glasses) so I moved to their direction shouting "If you move I will smash you" so they remained there. Behold it was Olamide (Js2D) and Princess (Js2 B) "Ms. Chinasa good morning Ma" she said. "Ọ sị m good morning Ma by this time? I checked my wrist watch may be the time of my phone wasn't accurate" I replied. They were discussing about Emmanuel in Js2D and how he wanted to snatch someone's girlfriend.
Their case took me about 3 days to get the truth because it was inter relating ( involving more students everyday.
From their discussion, I generated a question.
"So Princess, who is Olamide to you?" I asked.
"Olamide is my boyfriend" she answered with a low tune while covering her face. (I was shocked) The most important thing is that they don't lie to me because they see me as their Mum, elder sister at the same time class teacher, (so the respect was there full time)
Boyfriend you said?
"Yes Ma" she replied.
Please define "a boyfriend" (I smiled)
With joy in her heart, she innocently said that "A boyfriend is someone you are doing something with"
(Here it wasn't funny any more. Chineke!) (But you know, to get the truth from them you don't need to be too serious although I was surprise)
So you are doing something with Olamide right? I asked.
Olamide answered "Yes Ma (nke ndị boyfriend nah) Ola, who and who knows you are her boyfriend? I asked.
He was very happy telling me that all their classmates are aware.
Okay in that case (I brought out my jotter) give me names of 4 boys from your class that knows about your relationship with Princess. (I gave him the jotter and pen)
Don't forget to write their registration numbers okay?
"Okay Ma" he replied.
As he was writing, I told Princess the same which they did.
"You may now go back to your classes, I will call you when am ready"
"Okay Ma, thank you Ma" they echoed and moved.
I settled many cases in that school but you see this particular one?
It was a very bad one but ended in praise as God used me to rescue those students.
What about Gloria's case?
(Her mum was using her to make money.)
I encountered SHIT in that school.
IT ENDED IN PRAISE!
Less I forget, I celebrated my birthday with them before we rounded up with our TPE.
I was overwhelmed with the kind of present I received that day ( Onye nwere mmadụ ka onye nwere ego) Gifts from teachers, parents and my students.
One of the letters they wrote to me made me shared tears. (Ụmụaka ahụ dị too much)
Can you imagine, a student telling you that " You are better than her biological mother)
I cried!
The fact is that some of them didn't like what I was doing, especially the elderly ones in the class because they felt na m na-emebiri ha ahịa but I later educated them.
"Obodo adịghị mma bụ uru ndị nze" abụghị ma nke a. (They thought because they were older, they can take advantage of the younger ones)
Please, Correct them whenever they go wrong.
Nwa bụ nke otu onye mgbe ebu ya n'afọ.
Ọ bụ nwa ọha mgbe amụchara ya.
Otu onye anaghị azụ nwa.
Ndeewo!
